Robin Soderling’s unbeaten record may be over but he still has a great shot at the title this weekend.

After Juan Martin Del Potro’s win over Roger Federer on Thursday, the tournament now looks wide open and it’s hard to call a winner. The Argentine thoroughly outplayed the Swiss in sets one and three, that huge forehand doing a lot of damage and if he finds himself up against Federer in Sunday’s final he will fancy his chances.

Soderling was supposed to be the whipping boy of Group B, a late replacement for Andy Roddick. Instead it has been the Swede handing out the beatings with his ultra-aggressive game style well suited to indoor surfaces.

Soderling and Del Potro have played twice before and their record is neatly poised at 1-1. Soderling won two years ago on indoor carpet, 7-6, 7-6, 6-4 in the Davis Cup but Del Potro got revenge last year, 6-4, 6-3 in the semis of Auckland.

If both keep up the sort of tennis they displayed in their last two group matches in should be a cracking match. Neither player likes to hold back on their groundstrokes from the back of the court so don’t expect too many long rallies if you’re watching this one. Del Potro is probably the more complete player technically and it will be interesting to see if his searing power can expose Soderling’s weaker backhand wing.

Del Potro is 4/7 with Stan James with Soderling priced at 13/8 with Sky Bet.
