Djokovic’s destiny is not in his hands, he has to hope that Robin Soderling beats Nikolay Davydenko in the evening match. However first of all Djokovic needs to beat arch-rival Rafael Nadal.

Nadal is already out and will have an eye on the Davis Cup final but he will be looking to regain some pride and finish the round robin stage with a win.

Djokovic and Nadal have both looked spent this week and neither player has been able to live up to his star billing. Both were thoroughly outplayed by an inspired Robin Soderling and if Nikolay Davydenko had been a little more clinical on Monday this would already be a dead rubber. Against Soderling, Djokovic just generally looked unhappy to be on the court and that needs to change if he’s going to stay in the competition.

Nadal leads their head-to-head by a commanding 14-6 but Djokovic in the last couple of years has shown that on hard courts he’s the better player and the last two times they’ve faced each other, it hasn’t even been close. Djokovic breezed to a 6-1, 6-4 win in Cincinnati and repeated the trick on his way to the Paris Masters title with a 6-2, 6-3 semi-final win.

Given what’s at stake Djokovic will probably find enough to come through and he’s 4/9 favourite with sporting bet. Nadal is 15/8 with bet365
