Fernando Verdasco was competing in Switzerland just a couple of days ago. After a long haul flight he’s now preparing to begin a tilt at the Washington title.

Verdasco is having to make a very quick switch this week having spent the past couple of weeks grinding it out on the clay courts of Europe. He eventually played himself into some form, reaching the final of the Swiss Open at the weekend.
He opted to take a late wildcard this week but it’s been a hectic few days for the Spaniards with a long flight, jetlag and a very quick acclimatization to deal with. Matosevic will never have a better shot against a top 20 player.
The Aussie is already battle hardened to the intense heat in D.C. having come through qualifying at the weekend before seeing off the promising young Lithuanian Richard Berankis 7-6, 3-6, 6-1 in the first round.
Verdasco looked back to his old self in Switzerland and while it may be too much to expect him to go deep this week, look for him to threaten at the upcoming Masters Series events.
