Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will need to beat Juan Martin Del Potro for the first time ever if he's to win the ATP Vienna title on Sunday.
Del Potro is seeking his third title of the year and he'll be slight favourite having won all three of his past matches with Tsonga. The last one was at the French Open two years ago, Del Potro edging the fourth round clash 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-4.
"Of course tomorrow Juan Martin will play his best tennis because he wants to play, he wants to win and it’s going to be difficult," Tsonga said. "I will give everything on the court, like every time, to win this match."
There's plenty at stake in the ATP Race for the winner of this one. Tsonga will solidify his position in the top eight and overtake Mardy Fish to move into seventh place if he wins. Del Potro badly needs to win to maintain his slim hopes of qualifying. He enjoyed a superb first six months of the season, winning titles in Delray Beach and Estoril but since then things have been a little tougher for the Argentine and it's been a welcome run for him.
Del Potro has been the most impressive of the two this week, dropping just the one set to Kevin Anderson in the semis. Apart from that he's been largely untroubled with few players able to handle his huge serving on a surface this fast.
With both men racking up the ace count all week, fully expect this one to be decided in the tiebreaks.
