Davydenko will be hoping to cull the recent streak of bad form which has plagued him over the past month or so. The Russian‘s reliable groundstrokes are the bedrock of his game but he seems to have been lacking confidence ever since he returned from a wrist injury in June.

It is a stark contrast to the Davydenko of twelve months ago who was blitzing world class opposition on the clay and winning titles for fun.

He has been a little unlucky with draws, losing to eventual champion Andrey Golubev in Hamburg.

Robert is a tricky opponent for him at this point in time, the Frenchman has an unorthodox style and it is not easy for opponents to strike a good rhythm against him.
