Ivan Ljubicic takes on compatriot Ivan Dodig at the Studena Croatia Open on Thursday.

Ljubicic will be making his eleventh appearance in Umag and has been competing here since 1996, an amazing show of longevity. However the last time he made the semis was back in 1999 so it has not really been a happy hunting ground for him.

Clay has never been Ljubicic’s best surface but he was adept enough to make a Roland Garros semi-final several years ago so is no slouch on the dirt.

Wildcard Dodig scored an upset win over Ivan Navarro in round one 6-3, 6-4 and he will be hoping to catch his more celebrated countryman, cold.

Dodig is ranked 153 and has been playing well recently, qualifying for Wimbledon and giving Sam Querrey a very tough match in round two.

However it would be a major surprise if he can take Ljubicic out here.
