Nikolay Davydenko continues his defence of his Studena Croatia Open title against Juan Ignacio Chela.

Davydenko put his recent on-court woes behind him in the second round as he impressively dispatched Stephane Robert 6-1, 6-2.

This will be a much tougher prospect for him though as Chela lives and breathes for the clay. The Argentine is seeded eighth and came through a potentially difficult match with Simone Bolelli 7-6, 6-7, 6-1.

"I'd never played against him before but I think he’s having his best year on the tour,” Davydenko said after his match with Robert. “Chela will be a different opponent in the next round. It’s tough to know how he will play.”

Amazingly Chela actually leads Davydenko 5-1 on head-to-heads though they have not played since 2006 and the last time they played on clay was 2002.

However our feeling is that Davydenko will draw on the fan support he has here as a past champion and prolong his title defence a little longer.
