The historic Medibank International in Sydney sees the return of Juan Martin Del Potro.
The tournament goes all the way back to 1885 when it was used to try and select the Davis Cup team. Now 116 years later it is a vital stop on the way to the Australian Open.
Much of the excitement this year centres around the return of former US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro. The Argentine was laid low with a wrist injury around this time last year and his presence was much missed. This is his first tournament of 2011 and should provide a good indication of whether he has any chance of making the second week in Melbourne.
Last year's runner-up Richard Gasquet often struggles on outdoor hard but he enjoyed a superb week in 2010, just losing out to Marcos Baghdatis. However Gasquet put up a poor showing in Chennai last week, crashing out early on.
Sam Querrey is top seed and he will be looking to find his form after running out of gas at the end of 2010. The American was one of the most improved players last season, winning four titles.
