Monfils ended 2009 in style by reaching the Paris Masters final but 2010 has provided little for the Frenchman to celebrate so far. Winning his third ATP title today would turn things around for him.
Monfils has not found things easy this week on the wet Stuttgart clay but has battled his way to the final, needing three sets to see off each of his opponents so far. Monfils' impressive physical conditioning has been a key factor in his run so far this week and once again he outlasted Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.

“It was tough,” Monfils said, when asked about the rainy weather . “We were waiting for maybe three-four hours so it was tough to perform. Daniel was playing with a lot of spin and when he played it back behind me it was tough to adjust my step, but I tried to make him play a lot of backhands. The third set was quicker, but I think he was struggling a bit physically."

Albert Montanes earned his first win in five matches against Juan Carlos Ferrero, outplaying the former world number one 6-3, 7-6. He is hoping to become the sixth Spanish champion in Stuttgart.

Montanes probably goes into this one as slight favourite after some brilliant performances this week. He took out French Open semi-finalist Jurgen Melzer in the quarters and his confidence is sky-high right now.
