Fernando Verdasco returns to defend his title at the SAP Open in San Jose.
The SAP Open boasts a long and illustrious history as the second oldest tournament in the United States. First held way back in 1889, it has been graced by the likes of Rod Laver, John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and most recently Andy Murray and Lleyton Hewitt.
Last year,Verdasco thwarted Andy Roddick's bid to become the first man in the Open era to win four San Jose titles. The powerful left-hander will hope to put the disappointment of his one-sided Australian Open defeat to Tomas Berdych behind him.
Former champion Lleyton Hewitt is back. Hewitt won the title here back in 2002, defeating Andre Agassi in a final set tiebreak. The Aussie looked rejuvenated at the start of 2011 and expect him to make the latter stages here.
Sam Querrey enjoyed a very consistent 2010 season but the Californian is still yet to make that big breakthrough that American tennis fans are hoping for. As fourth seed he will be one of the main title contenders this week.
As for dangerous floaters, all eyes will be on Juan Martin Del Potro as he continues his comeback. Del Potro's fitness may be a work in progress but in the early stages he will be a threat to anyone. Also watch out for Milos Raonic. The Canadian made a name for himself at the Aussie Open, reaching the fourth round with his cannon of a serve and is one to watch for the rest of the year.
