Novak Djokovic received a boost when Florian Mayer pulled out giving him a walkover into the Rotterdam semi-finals.

Djokovic had earlier eased past Marco Chiudinelli 6-4, 6-2 in their second round match. Djokovic could have won even more comfortably had he taken more of his twelve break point chances.

He had been due to face Mayer in Friday’s quarter-finals but the German pulled out with a hamstring injury sustained during his win over Tommy Robredo earlier in the week.

"It is never the best way to get a win like this and I feel sorry for Florian," Djokovic said.

He now faces either Gael Monfils or Mikhail Youzhny in Saturday’s semi-finals.
