The blockbuster clash on day four of ATP Rotterdam is Nikolay Davydenko against Marcos Baghdatis.

Baghdatis is up 2-1 on the head-to-heads with both his wins coming in 2007, a year when the Cypriot was still near the top of the game. He won 7-6, 7-6, 6-3 in the fourth round of Wimbledon and then 6-2, 6-2 at the Paris Indoors.

Both players cruised through their opening matches in very impressive fashion against two of the most dangerous floaters in the draw. Davydenko made light work of last week’s SA Open champion Feliciano Lopez 6-4, 6-2 and Baghdatis disposed of James Blake by the same scoreline.

It should be an excellent match as Baghdatis and Davydenko are on top form, both having won titles this year. Baghdatis won the Sydney title and looked dangerous at the Australian Open before he had to retire with a shoulder injury. Davydenko won Doha and it took the best of Roger Federer to stop him in the Melbourne quarter-finals.

Davydenko’s level right now though is up there with the very best in the world and so he should make the quarter-finals though probably in a tough three setter.
