Gael Monfils takes on Thiemo De Bakker for a place in the Rotterdam quarter-finals.

Monfils is competing in Rotterdam for the third time. Early on in his career, he did not enjoy too much success at the tournament but last year he reached the semi-finals, losing to Nadal.

Monfils is enjoying a solid start to the season as befitting the world number 13 reaching semi-finals in Brisbane and Johannesburg last week. However the Australian Open was a disappointment for him. Expected to reach the second week, Monfils went out in a tight third round four setter to John Isner.

De Bakker has benefitted from wildcards into the Rotterdam draw over the past few years and he got another this year and took advantage of a nice draw against Czech lucky loser Jan Hajek, winning 7-6, 6-3.

He actually beat Monfils in their only previous match last year, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 on clay in the Davis Cup world group playoffs.

The match could be a lot closer than some might think and Rotterdam is renowned for series of upsets early on but Monfils should gain revenge.

Monfils is 2/7 with Coral but if he is having an off day De Bakker might be worth a flutter at 7/2 with Sky Bet.
