The grass court season always feel like it’s over almost as soon as it’s begun and once Wimbledon finishes there’s a slight anti-climax. But it’s not done and dusted just yet for 2010. The ATP Tour moves across the Atlantic to the lawns of Rhode Island to allow the serve-volleyers a final chance to shine before the summer hard court swing begins.

This is an event where traditionally the serve-volleyers flourish. The courts in Newport are very fast and low bouncing which has been perfect for the likes of Greg Rusedski and Fabrice Santoro who have won the title multiple times in the past.

Querrey won the Queens Club title a few weeks back and reached the last sixteen at Wimbledon but he may struggle to go all the way this week as he likes to play mainly from the back of the court.   

Rajeev Ram won last year, another serve-volleyer and the 6’4 American is back again for another shot.

Don’t expect to see Columbians Santiago Giraldo and Alejandro Falla, the second and third seeds to last too long but fifth seed Mardy Fish could be one to watch out for. The American is a fine serve-volleyer with a huge forehand and he knocked Andy Murray out at Queens.
