Ryan Harrison aims to build on last year's successful run in Newport as he opens his campaign against Arnaud Clement.
19 year old Harrison has been heralded as the next big thing for American tennis for some time now. He reached the quarters last year as a wildcard and has a potentially mouth-watering second round clash against top seed John Isner if he can get through this tricky opener against Clement.
It's been a decent 2011 to date for Harrison who has worked his way up to the outskirts of the top 100 and made the fourth round in Indian Wells back in March, impressing Roger Federer. He served further notice of his pedigree at Wimbledon when he pushed world number six David Ferrer all the way in a thrilling five setter.
Clement will be an interesting test for the teenager. The former Aussie Open finalist still believes he can mix it on the tour at the age of 33 though he has to qualify for events more often than not these days.
It's surely not going to be too long before the Frenchman calls it a day at least on the singles front, after a fairly dismal year to date. He lost in the opening round of Wimbledon to clay-courter Lukasz Kubot and has not won back to back ATP matches since last year's US Open.
Harrison should pull through this one but maybe in three.
