Gael Monfils is in action against Daniel Gimeno-Traver in round two of the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters.
Monfils enjoyed a fantastic end to 2011, reaching the Paris Masters final but his 2011 has been blighted by injury to date. This is his first tournament since San Jose at the start of February due to a wrist problem.
After two months out of the game it's tough to know what to expect from Monfils especially on such a demanding surface as clay. Monfils' athletic retrieving style has earned him plenty of success on the red dirt of Roland Garros in the past, seeing him reach the semi-finals back in 2008.
Usually this would be regarded as a great chance of an upset for Gimeno-Traver against a rusty Monfils but the Spaniard has been in a dire slump. Before this tournament he had lost 12 straight matches going back to October. He stopped the rot with a 7-6, 7-5 win over Santiago Giraldo in round one but can he pull off a win over this magnitude ?
Prediction: Monfils in three
