Gael Monfils is in stunning form heading into the last eight.

Monfils stunned the crowds last night with a blistering performance to crush Sebastien Grosjean 6-1, 6-1. Firing ten aces the top seed was in a hurry and he will be a difficult prospect for Janko Tipsarevic on Friday. Tipsarevic had an impressive result of his own, taking out eighth seed Ivan Ljubicic 6-4, 7-6 and having beaten Monfils twice before he’ll have plenty of belief going into the match. When they faced each other in Monte Carlo this year, Tipsarevic cruised through 6-3, 6-1. However Monfils is in the form of his life and he’s the safe bet at 3/10 with bet365. If you reckon Tipsarevic can pull off the upset then he’s 12/5 also with bet365.

Third seed Paul-Henri Mathieu looks like Monfils’ closest challenger for the title at the moment. He had to be sharp to get past serve-volleyer Marc Gicquel 7-6, 6-4 and now plays big serving German Andreas Beck who’s yet to drop a set in two matches here. Beck is in the form of his life and now inside the top fifty after winning his first main tour title in August. However on indoor hard the experience of Mathieu should see him through. He’s rated at 8/13 to reach the semis with Sky Bet.

Evgeny Korolev came into this tournament on a roll after winning a challenger last week and he’s continued where he left off. He ousted sixth seed Ben Becker 6-2, 6-3 in the first round but required a final set tiebreak to defeat the Uzbek Denis Istomin in round two. Second seed Philipp Kohlschreiber looked a tad rusty in his opening match on Wednesday, requiring three sets but he’ll be buoyed by his 3-0 record against Korolev. Incidentally, their last match was in the 2008 Australian Open when Korolev led by two sets to love before being forced to retire by an injury. If you reckon Korolev will gain revenge he’s 11/4 with bet365 but the smart money is on Kohlschreiber at 3/10 with Boylesports.
