Xavier Malisse aims to build on his shock first round upset of Tommy Haas when he plays Ivo Karlovic for a place in the Memphis quarter-finals.

Malisse returned to the tour in January following a high profile court case in which he successfully overturned a year’s ban for missing three out of competition drugs tests.

He is in excellent form at the moment having caused big upsets in the first round for the past two weeks. In San Jose he took out Radek Stepanek and yesterday he beat three-time former champion Tommy Haas 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

However Malisse will need to make his chances count a little more against Karlovic. Against Haas he converted just three of 18 break points chances. He will not have as many to play with against Karlovic who smashed no less than 32 aces in his 7-6, 7-6 win over Ben Becker.
