Top seed Robin Soderling faces a stiff quarter-final test against Michael Llodra.

Llodra won their only previous match 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 in the Rotterdam final two years ago. However Soderling has made huge strides since then, last year reaching the French Open final and then cracking the top ten.

Last week he won in Rotterdam while Llodra has been struggling this year, going out in the first round.

However the Frenchman has raised his game for Marseille, an event where he reached the final a year ago. He confounded expectations by defeated Marcos Baghdatis in round one and followed that up with a gritty 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 win over qualifier Edouard Roger-Vasselin.

This will be a big serving encounter with both getting plenty of cheap points. Llodra will look to rush Soderling as much as possible and go for broke with that flat leftie forehand. If he is on form it could be close otherwise expect Soderling to have too much consistency.
