Murray took a late wildcard and begins a summer which he hopes will take him to his first grand slam title at Flushing Meadows. He has never competed in LA before and a tournament success here would be a nice confidence boost ahead of the upcoming Masters Series.

Ernests Gulbis is worth watching out for as fifth seed and his potential clash against Murray in the quarters could be fascinating. The mercurial Latvian has disappointed in the slams but was brilliant at times during the clay court season and beat Federer.
