This time last year, Baghdatis was ranked well outside the top 100 but the Cypriot has enjoyed a renaissance in the past twelve months and is now ranked 25. However before this event he had suffered a fairly miserable couple of months, not winning a match since the French Open.

“I didn’t win a match on grass. It’s been two months I didn’t win a match,” Baghdatis said. “It’s a long time. It feels good winning a match, even without playing good. The positive attitude is there which is very important, and I’m looking forward to the next one.”

Tipsarevic has cruised through the first couple of rounds, defeating Somdev Devvarman 7-6, 6-2 to set up this enticing clash with Baghdatis.

Baghdatis leads 2-1 on the head-to-head but they have not played since 2007 and there is a contrasting difference between the tennis they are both playing this week.
