Jurgen Melzer seeks his first ATP 500 title at the German Open Tennis Championships when he plays Andrey Golubev in today’s Hamburg final. You can watch Melzer v Golubev live for free at bet365>live streaming>tennisMelzer is in the middle of a golden spell recently, first reaching the French Open semi-finals and then winning the Wimbledon doubles title. He looked imperious in his semi-final against Andreas Seppi. The Italian looked a little sluggish after his marathon quarter-final and was swept aside 6-4, 6-2.
"I can’t complain, I have really played well the last few matches," said Melzer. "Coming into the match today I was expecting a really tough one, and it was tougher than the result. I think for the first six games he was the better player, but I hung in there. After the first game of the second set, I think I played really good tennis."
He will be aiming for his third ATP title, the last came in Vienna last autumn. However he has a poor record in finals having only won two of the nine he’s played in.
It has been a stunning and completely unexpected run for Golubev this week who came into the tournament having only won eight matches all year. He ended hopes of a home winner by beating Florian Mayer 7-6, 6-4 in the final. The German was a break up early in the match but lost his way in the windy conditions.
They have only played once before, Melzer winning 7-5, 7-6 in the 2008 Wroclaw challenger. Expect the Austrian to triumph again here.
