Almagro improved his head-to-head against Jeremy Chardy to 4-0 with a 6-2, 7-6 win in Friday's quarter-finals. It has been a stellar clay-court season this year for Almagro who moved to 26 wins in 2010 on the red dirt.
Analysing his performance so far he said, "I had two tough matches at the beginning of the tournament and now I am starting playing better. I will have to put more pressure on the opponent during the next match."
Gimeno-Traver has been quite impressive over the past couple of weeks, also reaching the last four in Stuttgart and this week he has eased into the semi-finals without dropping a set, knocking out sixth seed Victor Hanescu in the first round and then Igor Andreev 6-2, 6-4 in the quarters.
Gimeno-Traver won his last match against Almagro in Bueno Aires and he is a good bet for the upset again here.
