The end-of-season awards for the ATP World Tour have been handed out
The winners of the awards are as follows;
ATP World Tour No.1 (As decided by ATP World Rankings)
Rafael Nadal
Nadal’s incredible season has included three Grand Slams, and an impressive Clay-Court Slam. Nadal finished the season with a 67-9 match record, and looks destined for yet another successful season in 2011.
ATP World Tour No.1 Doubles Team (Based on ATP Doubles World Rankings)
Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan
The Bryan brothers finished first for the sixth time in eight seasons. They dominated the doubles rankings by virtue of winning two Slams (Australian and U.S), and four Masters 1000 titles.
Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award (Voted by ATP Players)
Rafael Nadal
This is the first time that Nadal has won the award. Roger Federer had been on a six-year winning streak for this award prior to this.
Most Improved Player of the Year (Voted by ATP World Tour Players)
Andrey Golubev
Golubev ranking improved from No. 133 to No. 33 this year. He racked up some victories against top ten opponents, and also won his first ever ATP World Tour title.
Newcomer of the Year (Voted by ATP World Tour players)
Tobias Kamke
Kamke hadn’t won a Tour match prior to 2010, but excelled this year, climbing to No. 67 in the rankings. His achievements this season involved a third-round appearance at Wimbledon, and seven Tour level victories.
Comeback Player of the Year
Robin Haase
Haase bounced back from the injury problems that had blighted his 2008 and 2009 seasons to attain a season best ranking spot of No. 59. He won nine Tour level matches this season, and improved his ranking position by 392 positions.
Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year
Rohan Bopanna and Aisam Ul-Haq Qureshi
Bopanna and Qureshi have been using tennis to spread a goodwill message between their countries (India and Pakistan). Qureshi has recently become a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations.
ATP WorldTour.com Fans’ Favourite (Singles)
Roger Federer
Federer has now won this award for an eighth successive year. Federer has been a huge hit with the fans ever since he became a dominant force on the tour, and he attracted forty-seven percent of the votes this year.
ATPWorldTour.com Fans’ Favourite (Doubles)
Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan
The Bryan’s won this award for a sixth straight year, beating the likes of Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic for the accolade.
