World number five Robin Soderling is back in action for Sweden at the Power Horse World Team Cup today
The Red Group winner will come down to the survivor of Argentina and the U.S., both 2-0 thus far in the Power Horse World Team Cup. In the Blue Group, host Germany, Russia, Serbia and Spain all are 1-1 and have a chance to advance to Saturday’s final.
Leading off Blue Group action Thursday on Centre Court 1 is German Philipp Petzschner, taking the place of Florian Mayer. Petzschner will take on Russian Igor Andreev for the first time. Petzschner is playing doubles here this week (w/Kas) and they are 1-1 thus far. This is the German’s singles debut.
In the next match on, top American Mardy Fish brings a 2-0 mark against Argentine Juan Monaco, winning both previous meetings in a decisive set (’05 Australian Open fifth set and ’06 Houston third set).
In the final match, Kazakhstan’s Andrey Golubev looks for his second win over World No. 5 Swede Robin Soderling, Last October in Kuala Lumpur, Golubev won 6-3, 6-2, in the quarter-finals. Golubev is winless on clay (0-8) this year while Soderling is 11-1 lifetime at the Rochusclub.
On Centre Court 2, Serbian Viktor Troicki and Spaniard Marcel Granollers square off for the third time (tied 1-1). Both of their previous meetings came in Belgrade in 2009 and three weeks ago.
In the next match, Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan and Christian Lindell of Sweden meet for the first time. In the final match on, American John Isner and Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela battle it out for the third time. Chela won both previous meetings on clay in the first round at Roland Garros in 2008 in five sets and in the first round in Rome last week in straight sets.
