Jo-Wilfried Tsonga faces a far from easy task against Ivan Ljubicic.

Tsonga had a boost when his first round opponent, newly crowned Marseille champion Michael Llodra, retired after the first set. However things do not get any easier in Tsonga’s section of the draw with former world number three Ivan Ljubicic awaiting in the next round.

Ljubicic gave Tsonga problems a couple of times last year. They had an epic struggle at the Australian Open, with Tsonga edging that in five sets and then the Croatian outplayed Tsonga 6-4, 7-5 in Madrid.

However Ljubicic has not really been in that sort of form this year, he’s yet to win more than two matches in any tournament and looked far from convincing in a three sets first round win over Czech lucky loser Jan Hernych.
