Roger Federer plays the mercurial Latvian Ernests Gulbis for a place in the Qatar Open semi-finals.
Federer has never played Gulbis who has been regarded for several years as one of the most talented young players on tour.
However with a perceived lack of work ethic Gulbis has yet to fulfil that promise and currently languishes at 90 in the rankings. For the first eight months of 2009 he was unable to win two matches back-to-back.
However he bounced back in the indoor season and is enjoying a decent week so far with a 6-2, 7-5 win over sixth seed Albert Montanes and a 6-4, 7-5 second round win over the Italian Andreas Seppi.
Gulbis has a big game, huge serve backed up with heavy groundstrokes but he is inconsistent.
