Ferrer has not dropped a set all week and he handed out a clay-court masterclass to fifth seed Albert Montanes yesterday in a 6-1, 6-1 drubbing. In doing so he secured his 300th ATP Tour win.

Juan Carlos Ferrero is now on a nine match winning streak after claiming the Brasil Open title last week. He has only once looked in a spot of bother when Santiago Ventura took him to three sets in the quarters but he was back to his unflappable best in the semi-finals defeating past Bueno Aires champion Juan Monaco 6-2, 7-6.

“I came to South America aware that I was playing well. I didn’t know I was going to get to this stage, with a title and in the final of my second tournament,” Ferrero said. “In my first two rounds in Brazil, it took me a while to get used to playing on clay again. Starting in the quarter-finals there, I felt I started playing much better.”

However Ferrer will be very confident of victory with a 5-1 head-to-head record against Ferrero including two clay wins.
