Seeds are falling at last clay-court event of the year.
Bucharest provides one final chance for the clay-courters to fill their boots before tennis moves indoors for the rest of the year. With Nicholas Almagro making an early exit on Wednesday, the tournament has not been short of upsets.
Juan Monaco looks like the best bet for the title right now (Ladbrokes have him as the 7/4 favourite). He progressed very comfortably through round one and should have little trouble against Spanish qualifier Pere Riba. Boylesports definitely seem to think so, they have Monaco at 1/8 to win that match.
Oscar Hernandez is always a name to watch out for in these smaller clay events and he knocked out flashy top seed Victor Hanescu 7-6, 6-4 earlier in the week. However he now has a tough match with Argentina’s Maximo Gonzalez who scored a fine win of his own over the experienced Olivier Rochus. Gonzalez beat Hernandez 6-4, 6-4 in the summer on Polish clay and is the slight favourite at 4/5 with Sky Bet.
Crazy Dani Koellerer should make the quarters if he keeps his head together against hard-hitting German Simon Greul. Koellerer has won their last three matches, all on clay and is 8/11 with Ladbrokes.
