Results for Tuesday January 4th from the ATP Brisbane event in Australia.
The ATP Brisbane results are in for January 4th as Robin Soderling opened his campaign for a title against Ryan Harrison. Here's who advanced, and who fell, in the singles draw for the 250 level tournament from down under.
[1] Robin Soderling (SWE) d [Q] Ryan Harrison (USA) 62 64
The American 18 year old did well to qualify for the main draw and he promises to make more tour level events in 2011 as he continues to improve. Soderling also did well in not taking the young talent lightly.
Benjamin Becker (GER) d [3] Fernando Verdasco (ESP) 61 67(2) 63
This result was the surprise of the opening round as the third seeded Verdasco suffers an early exit. Verdasco looks off-form to start the season as the 29 year old Becker should have been pretty easy pickings.
[4] Mardy Fish (USA) d [Q] A Mannarino (FRA) 61 64
[5] Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) d F Serra (FRA) 36 75 64
[Q] Matthew Ebden (AUS) d [WC] J Millman (AUS) 46 62 64
Radek Stepanek (CZE) d Tobias Kamke (GER) 57 61 64
[Q] Richard Berankis (LTU) d Arnaud Clement (FRA) 64 63
Kevin Anderson (RSA) d *[LL] Peter Luczak (AUS) 64 64
Note: Andy Roddick is on the Order of Play for January 5th.
