The ATP Bourdeaux challenger event should provide plenty of entertainment this week, and has attracted a number of well-known players that weren’t eligible for the ATP Madrid Masters.

It’s difficult to pick a clear favourite in this field, though Richard Gasquet has the ability to pick up the title here if he plays to his potential. Gasquet is joined by other established players such as Arnaud Clement, Denis Istomin, Olivier Rochus, Michael Llodra, Florent Serra, Xavier Malisse and Robby Ginepri. Clement in particular may be in with a good chance in this tournament if his first set performance against Roger Federer in Estoril is anything to go by.

Outside of these players, Michal Przysiezny may be able to make an impact. 2010 has been a very fruitful season for Przysiezny, who won in Kazan and St. Brieuc, a clay-court tournament, earlier this year. To add to this, he made the final in Leon last month and is looking sharp.

We should be in for some top class matches in Bourdeaux, and a number of these competitors have shown at various points in their careers that they have the capacity to break into the top fifty. This event could turn out to be one of the best on the Challenger circuit this year.
