Fernando Gonzalez is playing his first ATP match since last September at the Serbia Open today.
Gonzalez has been sidelined by hip surgery for the past seven months and as ever it's hard to know what to expect from him after such a long time out of the game. Clay is the Chilean's surface and at his best Gonzalez reached the semi-finals of the French Open back in 2009, only missing out narrowly on a place in the final in a five set defeat to Robin Soderling.
He plays his opening match against a young man of whom much was expected a few years ago. Klizan won the French Open junior title against just 16 in 2006 and reached the top of the junior rankings a year later. However the left-hander has found things tougher on the main tour and has yet to break into the top 150.
However there are signs that things might be changing. He reached the final of last week's Rome challenger, taking him to a career high ranking of 153 and came through three rounds of qualifying at the weekend without dropping a set.
He has nothing to lose against a rusty Gonzalez and as seasoned followers of the game will know, Gonzalez is capable of shanking that forehand all over a tennis arena when he's not in the groove.
Prediction: Klizan to pull off the upset in two.
