Robin Soderling takes on Nicolas Almagro in the SkiStar Swedish Open final.

Soderling won this title last year, defeating Juan Monaco in the final but he has not had an easy route through the draw this year and has been taken the distance in his last two matches.

The Swede battled back in the semis to defeat David Ferrer 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to make his fourth ATP final of the year. Soderling eventually managed to establish his game midway through the second set and from 3-3 he won eight of the next nine games to all but seal victory.

"I had to play better today because Ferrer puts a lot of balls back at a very high pace," Soderling said afterwards. "I always liked to play high balls, though, it doesn’t seem to bother me to hit at shoulder height. I can still serve better and reduce the number of mistakes but it was much better today.”

Almagro had few problems in reaching his second Bastad final, crushing Tommy Robredo 6-1, 6-3. Almagro never let his opponent in the match, dominating with his heavy forehand from the start and quickly racing to a 6-1, 3-0 lead. 

Soderling leads 3-2 on the head-to-head but Almagro won 6-4, 7-5 when they played in Madrid earlier this year.

"He serves well and can hit really big from both sides," Soderling said of Almagro. "If his game is on, it's not just up to me. He has the ability to dictate the match."

However Soderling will have a lot of support, this being his home tournament and that should spur him on to victory.
