Soderling is going for his second ATP title on clay. The Swede is now ranked five in the world after making the French Open final for the second year in a row.
He overcame a slight blip to win his second round match 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 against Andreas Vinciguerra. Soderling missed a match point at 6-5 in the tiebreak but quickly put it behind him to take control of the third.
It has not been a good twelve months for Seppi who last made an ATP quarter-final in Croatia last August. The Italian has lost more matches than he has won in 2010 but has battled into the last eight this week, defeating Marcel Granollers 6-4, 6-2 in round one and then edging out Potito Starace 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.
They have played twice before with Soderling winning easily each time. It was 6-1, 6-3 to the Swede when they played in Stockholm last year.
