Novak Djokovic is in scarily good form heading into the last eight.
It can never do your confidence any harm to hand out a double bagel to a world class player even when you are ranked three in the world. Djokovic must be on cloud nine about his form right now after handing out some serious punishment to Jan Hernych in round two of the Swiss Indoors.
It brings him a step closer to a much anticipated final showdown with home favourite Roger Federer. However first of all there is the matter of another Swiss, Wawrinka who will be hoping the home crowd will inspire him to greater things as his record against Djokovic isn’t promising.
The Serb has won their last five matches and leads the overall head-to-head 8-2. Two of them have been this year, wins for Djokovic in Indian Wells and Monte Carlo. Wawrinka has done well to reach this stage as he’s had a nasty draw. First up was a tough three setter against Ivan Ljubicic, still one very dangerous player indoors and then another potential banana skin in the shape of Jarkko Nieminen.
Wawrinka has dealt with them both but Djokovic will be a different matter. He needs to try and be the more aggressive player as the fast, low bouncing courts in Basel favour the players who take the most chances.
Djokovic is a 2/9 favourite with Paddy Power while bet365 have Wawrinka at 7/2.
