Eighth seed Ben Becker plays veteran Michael Russell in the opening round of the Atlanta Tennis Championships.

Becker who is ranked 67, has had some decent showings in 2010, a fourth round appearance in Miami and a couple of semis during the grass court swing, the highlights so far.

32 year old American Russell is in danger of slipping out of the top 100 and has had most of his success in challengers, winning a tournament in Hawaii at the start of the year.

However he actually leads their head-to-head 3-1 and won last year 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in the quarters of the Salinas Challenger.

Russell's big strengths are his consistency and physical conditioning so he is very difficult to play in extreme heat which was the case at Salinas. However in a late afternoon match at Atlanta on fairly fast hard courts, Becker should have the edge with his big serve and willingness to attack.
