Former world number one Lleyton Hewitt opens play on Stadium court in Atlanta against qualifier Phillip Simmonds.
It's hard to believe it's exactly a decade ago since Hewitt first joined the elite group of Grand Slam winners with a majestic display at the US Open to demolish American legend Pete Sampras in the final.
Ten years on and Hewitt's hunger for the game still remains at the age of 30 and he's scheduled for a full US Open Series campaign this summer as he bids to regain his place in the top 100 after slipping all the way down to 174. He proved to himself what he's still capable of at Wimbledon where he led Robin Soderling by two sets to love before eventually falling in five.
25 year old Simmonds is ranked 428 and was a surprise qualifier at the weekend. Another product of the American collegiate system he has never made the top 200 and has spent most of this season trawling around the futures circuit. He had a brief flirtation with the ATP Tour in March, losing in the first round of qualifying for Indian Wells so this weekend's performance came out of the blue.
Prediction: Hewitt in straight sets.
