Ferrero is the man to beat at the moment and a win today would give him a hat-trick of titles from the Latin American “Golden Swing.”

Ferrero will be the fresher man going into the final after Juan Monaco retired with an abdominal strain after losing the first set of their semi-final. It was fortunate for Ferrero who had been a break down in that set.

Ferrero has not had a run like this since 2001 when he was on fire during the spring European clay court swing, winning Barcelona and Rome before losing in the Hamburg final. Winning so many matches in a row is physically draining but Ferrero is confident his body is holding up.

"I know it will get each time more difficult to keep this streak alive but I'm confident and my body is holding well," he said.

David Ferrer won an intense struggle against Fernando Gonzalez 6-7, 6-0, 6-4 in the other semi-final. After blazing through the second set Ferrer looked to be cruising but the final set was much tighter, Ferrer taking advantage of his single break point opportunity.

Looking ahead to the final he said, "I'm very good friends with Juan Carlos. We know each other’s game very well so it will be a matter of who can be tougher mentally and physically."

Ferrer leads 5-2 on their head-to-head but Ferrero will be confident having beaten his compatriot in three sets in last week’s Bueno Aires final.
