APT World Tour Finals Wednesday Order of Play

The fourth day of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals features the No. 2 and 3 players in the South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings in Group B round robin play.

Novak Djokovic, the No. 3 seed and defending champion, takes on No. 8 seed Robin
Soderling in the day session singles match. Both players are 1-0 in Group B so far, Djokovic
gutting out a marathon win over Nikolay Davydenko and Soderling beating Rafael Nadal; but if history is anything to go by, it might be a tough task for the Swede, as Djokovic is 5-0 lifetime against him. They have played twice this year, with both meetings coming recently. Djokovic won 63 63 in the semi-finals of Beijing last month and 64 16 63 in the quarter-finals
of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Paris on Nov. 13 The Serb has also won 19 of 20 matches since the US Open and he comes in with an 11-match winning streak.

The last Swede to qualify and play at least three round robin matches was Magnus Norman, who went 0-3 in round robin play in Lisbon in 2000. Thomas Enqvist is the last Swede to win
a round robin match at this event (going 1-2 in the 1999 edition of the tournament). Thomas Johansson filled in as an alternate in 2002 and played one match, losing to Federer.

Rafael Nadal, the No. 2 seed, faces No. 6 seed Nikolay Davydenko in the night session singles match. Both players are looking to get a win in Group B after losses in their first round
robin matches on Monday. Nadal has a 4-3 edge over Davydenko in their career meetings although the Russian is 3-1 on hard courts, which includes 3-0 in their last three meetings on
hard (Nadal’s only win over Davydenko on the surface came at the Tennis Masters Cup in 2006). Nadal’s best year-end finish was the semi-finals in 2006-07 while Davydenko was
runner-up to Djokovic last year in Shanghai.

Nadal, who is one win away from 400 in his career (399-89), is looking to turn things around against Top 10 opponents. He is 1-7 against Top 10 foes since his loss to Federer in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Madrid final on May 17. His lone Top 10 win since then came over No. 9 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Masters on Nov. 13.

In doubles Group B action, No. 6 seeds Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach play No. 7 seeds Max Mirnyi and Andy Ram for the first time. Both teams are coming off impressive opening
round robin match wins Monday. Kubot and Marach defeated No. 4 seeds Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes while Mirnyi and Ram upset No. 2 seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan.
Dlouhy/Paes and Bryan/Bryan will square off in the night session match, as both teams are looking to get on the board with a victory.
