Venus Williams' started her comeback in Eastbourne this week. After winning two matches to start the tournament, the American fell on Thursday to the surging Daniela Hantuchova.
Venus Williams, the former world number one, saw her comeback efforts fall short in Eastbourne this week as the American suffered a first-ever loss to Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia.
Williams had entered the match with a 10-0 record against Hantuchova however the American is 10-1 now as the match ended at 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 with Williams losing.
Hantuchova made the final in Birmingham last weekend and she also eliminated Caroline Wozniacki in the third round of the French Open. The Slovak is a player who is in-form at the moment although she promises to have her hands more than full with Petra Kvitova in the tournament's semifinals.
Williams' next match will now come from the All England Club which starts on Monday, June 20th. She is considered to be one of the favorites but her potential to win the event may be more limited than some realize as she's clearly not playing strong enough tennis right now to challenge for a Grand Slam title.
She may play strong again in the future but with Wimbledon just days away there is not much time for the former champion to recapture her form.
