Betting lines are already open for the 2011 Roland Garros tournament.

The 2010 French Open is now over but odds are already opened for the 2011 French Open.  Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are the opening favorites according to both bet365 and Stan James.

For those looking to bet this far in advance our recommendation is Juan Martin Del Potro but mainly we're just putting the odds up for archival purposes.

If you do bet this far in advance you generally bet longshots or at least longer than 10 to 1 and you only bet very conservatively.  Players get injured or in the case of Del Potro, they may not return from injury as the same player.  You don't want to commit a big chunk of your bankroll to an event that is a year away and then maybe have to wait for the results for a long time when you actually want to bet on other events in the mean time.

Here are the odds (the best price between bet365 and Stan James is the one we use):

1.  Rafael Nadal, -187 (about 10/19) bet365
2.  Roger Federer, +600 (6/1) Stan James
3.  Juan Martin Del Potro, +1000 (10/1), bet365
4.  Novak Djokovic, +2000 (20/1) Stan James
5.  Andy Murray, +2000 (20/1) Stan James

6.  Robin Soderling, +2000 (20/1) Stan James
7.  David Ferrer, +3300 (33/1) bet365
8.  Fernando Verdasco, +3300 (33/1) bet365
9.  Nikolay Davydenko, +5000 (50/1) bet365
10. Ernests Gulbis, +5000 (50/1) Stan James

11. Nicolas Almagro, +5000 (50/1) Stan James
12. Marin Cilic, +6600 (66/1) bet365
13. Tomas Berdych, +6600 (66/1) bet365
14. Fernando Gonzalez, +8000 (80/1) bet365
15. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, +8000 (80/1) bet365

16. Gael Monfils, +10000 (100/1) bet365
17. Juan Carlos Ferrero, +10000 (100/1) bet365

Pointers:

- Ferrero and Gonzalez might be out of the top 40 by this time next year as they are in their late 20s
- Nadal at -187 is a terrible bet a year in advance for an injury prone player; you will likely find slightly shorter odds the day before the 2011 French so don't tie up your bankroll on him right now
- Ferrer and Davydenko are also in their late 20s and you never know when guys that age are just going to drop down
- Djokovic is a better bet than Murray at the same odds
- Federer's odds can be expected to drift as he be ranked 4th to 6th on tour by this time next year
- Berdych, Gulbis, and Cilic are all sensible bets based on their youth and improvement in the last 6 months
- Soderling is a weak closer as he doesn't win many ATP events let alone Slams
