Sharapova has a really easy draw through the first two rounds but then she has the toughest opponent of them all.
Maria Sharapova does not open her 2010 French Open campaign until Tuesday when she will face fellow Russian Ksenia Pervak, a player who is ranked 110th on tour and who barged her way into the 2010 Roland Garros main draw with 3 wins in the qualifying tournament.
Sharapova herself is also on a roll however as she took down a clay court title in Strasbourg last week by rattling off 5 consecutive wins and going 10-2 overall in sets played. Sharapova did not face outstanding competition in the tournament although she did defeat Anabel Medina Garrigues, a decent clay courter who has won the majority of French Open matches that she has played in.
Sharapova is in the tough quarter at this year's French Open as the the top two outright favorites to win the event are in Sharapova's way if she wants to make the semis. Justine Henin would be Sharapova's opponent in the third round if neither of them suffer an upset while Serena Williams and Sharapova may meet in the quarterfinals.
Currently Sharapova is priced at +1600 (16/1) to win her quarter with bet365 and if she can pull off an upset against Henin then that price would shorten quite quickly. Henin's form hasn't been her very best heading into Roland Garros and she may be a tad overrated while Williams certainly is overrated at the French to win her quarter as she is just 2-4 in quarterfinals at Roland Garros in her career.
Sprinkling Sharapova at +1600 (16/1) does not look like a bad play to make at this point as those odds are long enough to risk backing on the former world number one player.
