The Rogers Cup, played in Montreal and Toronto, remains one of the most popular events in world tennis. This season’s competition promises to be special, with some great players confirmed for both the men’s and women’s draws.
Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic will return to defend his title next week in Toronto, but he’s just one of a number of standout players. French Open winner Rafael Nadal will be competing, as will Wimbledon champion and new world No. 1 Roger Federer. Former Rogers Cup winner Andy Murray will be hoping to upset the odds, as will David Ferrer, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Juan Martin Del Potro and John Isner.
Serena Williams, the women’s champ, will not be attending the competition in Montreal, but once again the draw is phenomenally strong. Maria Sharapova will be the top seed, having enjoyed a brief spell at world No. 1 this year and having completed a Career Grand Slam. Sharapova’s rivals here include Victoria Azarenka, Agnieszka Radwanska, Petra Kvitova, Sam Stosur, Caroline Wozniacki, Angelique Kerber, Marion Bartoli and Na Li.
