Maria Sharapova will have the chance to seal a Russian victory when she meets Carla Suarez Navarro in the Fed CupYou can watch and bet on Sharapova v Suarez Navarro live for free at bet365 > live tennisMaria Sharapova put the Russian Fed Cup team in a commanding position with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Silvia Soler-Espinosa on Saturday, and Svetlana Kuznetsova took this to 2-0 by beating Carla Suarez Navarro 6-3, 6-1. Sharapova will now face Suarez Navarro for the chance to send Russia through to the next round.
“It was a little tough at the beginning,” said Sharapova, who dropped her opening service game against Soler-Espinosa. “I felt a bit nervous as I didn’t play so well last year and I really wanted to change that result and I really concentrated on my game even despite the fact that I didn’t know that much about my opponent.”
Suarez Navarro will need to do something a little special to give Spain even half a chance of getting back into this tie. Even if she does manage to somehow overcome the odds, this contest will be over if Soler-Espinosa can’t produce a very unlikely win against Kuznetsova. It looks like there’s only one possible outcome here.
