Roger Federer driving sales up for Switzerland's first round Davis Cup tie against the United States.
Switzerland square off against the USA in a blockbuster of a first round tie from February 10th-12th. And with Federer certain to lead his country out on home soil, there's been a mad rush to secure tickets for the event.
With Stanislas Wawrinka a very capable number two, there are signs that Federer at long last, plans to take the competition seriously in 2012. And with him in the side, you really can't count out Switzerland's chances.
"I'm delighted to play, especially with the strong support that awaits us at home ", Federer said. "We had a great year (Switzerland returned to the World Group) and the atmosphere and team spirit is excellent."
The USA are almost certain to start with Mardy Fish and Andy Roddick with the Bryans brothers a formidable doubles pair. As a result, the tie is right in the balance and the Swiss will be hoping that the home support inspires Wawrinka to something special.
Committing to Davis Cup duty in February means that Federer is almost certainly not going to compete in Dubai this year. Between the Australian Open and Indian Wells, the only commitment he has is for ATP Rotterdam where he plans to return for the first time in seven years.
