Victoria Azarenka has followed her title success in Sydney with a string of dominant performances in Melbourne, and she’s currently on the right path towards winning the first slam of her career. She booked a place in the quarter-finals of this year’s Australian Open with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Iveta Benesova, further cementing her place as one of the tournament favourites. Still, a very tricky matchup with Agnieszka Radwanska awaits the Belarusian.

Azarenka has managed to avoid a fair amount of media attention, as the focus has largely been on the likes of Serena Williams and Kim Clijsters. That said, it’s been noted that there aren’t many shots getting past Azarenka’s defence, and that she’s in with a chance here. “I think I'm in the best shape physically right now, so it kind of helps other aspects of the game. I don't know. I feel pretty good out there,” remarked Azarenka.

After falling at this stage on five separate occasions in slams, Azarenka isn’t looking too far into the future at the moment. “I take it match by match.  I'm just going to be focused on my next match instead of focusing too much on what's going to happen after,” she explained.

“I have a tough match. I think I play Radwanska if she won yet. She was winning. She's very tough opponent. So just going to try stay focused and play the same way I've been playing previous rounds. That's it. But, you know, it doesn't really make sense to jump ahead too much.

Azarenka recognizes that she’s in for a real battle against Radwanska. “We had so many great matches, long matches, long rallies. I'm sure it's going to happen again. But I think she improved tremendously since the end of last year. You could see the difference. She became more aggressive.  She improved her serve. It's going to be a really tough battle. Mentally it's difficult. She's a very difficult player to play against. But we'll see. I mean, I'm going to be out there trying my best and fight hard.”
