Serena Williams will begin in Melbourne with a first round clash against Tamira PaszekYou can watch and bet on Williams v Paszek live for free at bet365 > live tennisSerena Williams is still treating her left ankle with ice, yet she she remains at the centre of attention in the women’s draw at the Australian Open. The five-time champion should never be ruled out, and her ability to perform with limited recent match practise is unquestionable. The fact that she’s only played twice since her defeat in the US Open final won’t necessarily count against her.
After training in Melbourne on Monday, Serena told reporters, “I really tested my moving today for the first time (since Brisbane) so I feel a lot better with it. I'll kind of know more tonight, you know, because today is the first day I really like really, really, really pushed it. But overall I feel really good.”
Serena will begin with a first round match against Tamira Paszek of Austria. The young Austrian has plenty of potential, but she doesn’t really have the necessary firepower to trouble Serena just yet. If her ankle injury doesn’t cause problems, Serena should prevail in straight sets and book a place in round two.
