Serena Williams will face the unlikely challenge of Ekaterina Makarova in the fourth round of the 2012 Australian OpenYou can watch and bet on Williams v Makarova live for free at bet365 > live tennisSerena Williams strolled into round four of the 2012 Australian Open this week with a 6-1, 6-1 thrashing of Hungarian veteran Great Arn, furthering the argument that a sixth Melbourne title could be on the way. At this stage of the tournament Serena is the only American left in the draw, and she can expect plenty of support from back home.
Arn commented after the match that it had been an honour to play against Serena, prompting the former world No. 1 to remark, “It makes me feel really good. I'm like really proud of, you know, the work that I've been doing for so many years, all the hard work. To play her, who obviously has been playing for a really long time, as well, it really makes me feel really special.”
When asked if she’d have preferred some tougher tests in the opening rounds, Williams commented, “I'm okay with how I'm going. I've had tough practices. You know, it's okay. I mean, I'm pretty experienced so I kind of know what the feeling of having tough matches is, having simple matches is. I think my first match could have been tougher, you know. She played pretty good. So it's okay.”
Williams is due to face Ekaterina Makarova on Monday. This is a clash that she should win, though perhaps with less ease than her third round rout of Arn.
