Petra Kvitova got through the fourth round of the 2012 Australian Open on Monday, beating a resurgent Ana Ivanovic in straight sets. She clinched the victory in a tie-breaker, as the Serb began to pose a serious threat to the world No. 2’s Melbourne title bid.

“I am happy that I won the second set because in the end it was very tough to come back. I lucky that I'm not playing a third set,” admitted Kvitova after edging past Ivanovic. Had she failed to get past Ivanovic, there’s no doubt that pundits would have read a lot into her missed smash at 5-3 up in the second set.

“Well, you know, it was really easy point. I missed it. Actually I don't know why, what's happened. Then I thought that it will be fine and I just go. You know, the serving in 5-4 in the second set, you have to do it,” continued the young Czech.
“Unfortunately I lost the game by 40-0. It was really easy for Ana to play like this. It was tough to get back and be focused on every point when I served. I sat on the chair. It was tough to get back. But, yeah, fortunately I did it.”

Kvitova will take on Sara Errani in the last eight. Errani has been a real surprise package here, and her sublime 6-2, 6-1 thrashing of the lightning-fast Jie Zheng may inspire some serious confidence ahead of her meeting with a potential world No. 1.

“Of course it's incredible for me. It's the first time quarterfinal, so I'm very happy for this,” said the Italian after her win. “I'm playing good. I'm happy to still [be] alive in the tournament.”
