Novak Djokovic has progressed through to the semi-finals of the 2012 Australian Open as expected, outclassing everyone who has gotten in his way. Despite meeting some high quality opposition, including the resilient Lleyton Hewitt, the Serbinator has looked dominant in all of his contests to date.

He runs into Andy Murray in the final four, Britain’s best hope of a slam winner for decades. The Scot has cruised so far, but he’s yet to face any of the game’s elite. That said, few considered anyone outside of the ‘top four’ to be a notable threat here, and perhaps it is no surprise that Murray’s first major threat arrives at this stage.

Djokovic, following an outrageously good 2011 season, returns not only as the defending champ but also as the tournament favourite. Such is the faith in Djokovic at the moment that the best odds on offer for a Djokovic win are 5/11 with SportingBet. These are slim odds indeed, but given how Djokovic schooled Murray last year in Melbourne, some will see this as a handout.

The longest odds on offer for Murray to win are 19/10 with Bwin. These odds would typically be considered long for a world No. 4, but the ascension of Djokovic has been breathtaking. Murray will have his sights set on vengeance though, and it’s a guarantee that he’ll push his body to the limits.

Bets on the total number of sets may be a decent option. For anyone expecting another Djokovic rout, odds of 6/4 are on offer at SkyBet for this one to be wrapped up in three. Anyone who thinks that the supreme fitness and scrambling ability of these two competitors will provoke a five-setter can currently find odds of 45/17 up for grabs at Bwin for that eventuality.
